On Friday, September 22, Turkish President Recep Erdogan Taim, located in new York, at the UN General Assembly, appealed to his supporters at the Marriott Marquis on times square, reports the BBC.
Erdogan gave a speech in Turkish, when he was interrupted by a few people, one of whom shouted, «You terrorist, get out of my country!». Between protesters and Erdogan’s supporters started the fight, during which the protection of the President of Turkey pushed the troublemakers out of the hotel.
A little later the participants of this protest has published in social networks pictures depicting the highlights of their presentations and the ensuing fight. The protesters said that their goal was public condemnation of the policy of Erdogan in Turkey, Syria and Iraq.
One of the participants of the protest, Megan Baudette, wrote on Twitter that she was kicked out of the hotel just because she unfurled the flag of the YPJ, the Kurdish women’s organization.
The witness, a native of Turkey, Halil Demir, an employee of the charitable organization, said he saw one of the protesters threw it on the floor, and the other handcuffed.
The police Department of new York said that at least five protesters were «briefly detained», but no arrests have been made, writes the New York Times.
44-year-old Cemil Burak Yilmaz, Turkish businessman, who is in new York on a business trip, said that during the scuffle, Erdogan remained unmoved. He resumed his speech in less than two minutes.
