Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe during his address to the nation on state television refused to announce his resignation.
Mugabe said that despite the pressure, he will remain in office. He noted that the military leadership at today’s meeting introduced him to the problems that need to be addressed in the country.
He explained the military intervention in the political life of the country «sincere patriotism and care about the prosperity of the nation.» Then urged the country to return to normal life and promised to lead the ruling Congress party, which will be held next month.
A few hours earlier, the African national Union of Zimbabwe-Patriotic front (ZANU-PF) has proposed 93-year-old dictator ultimatum: resign in one day, or impeachment. It was expected that during his address to the nation, Mugabe will announce his resignation.
We will remind that on November 15, armed forces of Zimbabwe took control of the capital, Harare, and currently the country is ruled previously sent in resignation of Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa. At the end of last week, the military seized the television station and the residence of the President of Zimbabwe.
The putschists announced its goal to fight against «criminals around the President» that led to a social and economic crisis.
After the seizure of power in the country the wife of Zimbabwe President grace Mugabe, also known as «Gucci grace» for her love of luxurious shopping, fled to Namibia. Agency ANA citing sources indicated that she was released on condition that Mugabe will retire.
