Sunday, December 13, held in France in the second round of regional elections. «Republicans» Nicolas Sarkozy won. In the second place the socialist party Francois Hollande. Right «national front» Marie Le Pen was defeated.
Candidates from «Republicans» won in 7 of 13 regions: Metropolitan Ile-de-France (for the first time in 17 years), Provence-Alpes-côte d’azur, Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie, Normandy, Alsace-champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine, Auvergne-rhône-Alpes and pays de La Loire, RIA Novosti reported.
The socialists won in the regions Bretagne, Centre-Loire Valley, Languedoc-Roussillon-MIDI-pyrénées, Bourgogne-Franche-comté and Aquitaine-Limousin-Poitou-Charentes.
In Corsica won the representative of the local nationalist Gilles Simeoni.
The front national in the second round failed to achieve victory in any of the regions.
However, recall that in the first round of elections on 6 December, the front national was the best in the whole country (27,7%) and its candidates – the first 6 of the 13 regions of mainland France. The centre-right party the Republicans then got 26,2% of the votes, while the socialist party was in third place with 23.2 per cent.
