Wednesday, August 9, a Russian military Tu-154 aircraft made an observation flight over the American capital under the Treaty on open skies providing for States parties to the Treaty to fly over the territory of each other.
The publication Politico reports that a Russian air force plane circled over Washington, and flew over Virginia, Pennsylvania and new Jersey.
According to the Pentagon, the flight was agreed upon. Russia warned the US about flying for 72 hours, as the contract requires. It is also reported that on Board the Russian plane were American observers.
The newspaper also reports that this is the tenth observation flight of the Russian air force over the United States this year.
