Thursday, June 29, the Commission to release at the security Service of prisons has decided to grant the request of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on parole.
According to the Commission, former Prime Minister released from prison on 2 July. Prosecutors said that asked to postpone the date of release of Olmert before the conclusion of the appeal, which they intend to appeal the decision of the Commission.
As previously reported, the request for PAROLE was filed on 24 August 2016. Consideration of the request took place on 17 June, and the prosecution strongly objected to early release of ex-Prime Minister.
Request for PAROLE was initially related to the Holyland case, in which Olmert was sentenced to 18 months in prison. In September 2016, the Supreme court dismissed the appeal filed by former Prime Minister against the verdict in the «case Talansky», for which he was sentenced to eight months in prison. This term was added to the term in the case of Holyland.
Discussion of a request for PAROLE is on the background check of new suspicions against Olmert. On 15 June the police raided the building of the publishing house «Yediot sfarim». The search was conducted in connection with the beginning of the investigations, according to which jailed former Prime Minister illegally kept in the chamber of secret documents relating to state security.
