The Commission believes that the death of journalist Daphne Caruana Galicia, who died in Malta as a result of the car bomb – an assassination, which was announced on Tuesday, October 17, the official representative of the organization, Margaritis Shinas.
«We are shocked by the death in Malta one of the most successful journalists specializing in the investigation of Daphne Caruana Galicia in the incident, which looks like a contract killing. Ask awkward questions and uncover defects is the main task of a journalist, protected by European rules and laws, and reflect the core values of democracy» – leads the text of the statement by the news Agency TASS.
Shinas also reported that the Commission requires to conduct a «thorough investigation» and punishment of those responsible.
At the same time the son of the deceased Matthew Caruana Galicia accused the Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat in the murder of his mother, as stated in his blog on the social network Facebook.
«My mother was killed because she stood between the law and those who tried to violate it, as many influential journalists. She is the only person who was involved in this investigation» – says son was killed.
He also claims that the Prime Minister of Malta has formed its own government of fraud, and the police and the courts – » unprofessional жуликами2, and that was the cause of the tragedy.
We will remind that two weeks before the death of the woman reported to police admitted to its threats. One of the latest investigations of Galicia was associated with the Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat and his two closest assistants.
The journalist was accused of Muscat and his wife in connection with the offshore company in Panama, in turn, linked to the daughter of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
Earlier Daphne Caruana Galicia participated in the publication of the so-called «Panama records», which provides information about the owners of offshore companies from different countries of the world.
After the death of Galicia WikiLeаks founder Julian Assange has promised to pay 20 thousand euros for information which will lead to the capture of murderers of the journalist.
