In the night of Friday, March 9, fighters of the Islamist Taliban attacked a checkpoint in the Khwaja Ghar district of Takhar province, in North-Eastern Afghanistan, near the border with Tajikistan.
Afghan TV reported that the attack killed at least 17 people, ten police officers and seven soldiers. Nine police officers were injured in the shootout with the militants.
