On Monday evening, 20 November, Sochi hosted a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The Syrian leader was submitted to the Ministry of defence and General staff of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, the press service of the Kremlin.
The talks were held on the eve of Putin’s meeting with the presidents of Turkey and Iran.

Assad, in turn, thanked Russia for support and assistance in the fight against terrorism, announcing the end of military operations and the beginning of a political settlement in Syria.
During the meeting, Putin also announced its intention on November 21 to hold telephone conversations with the heads of the countries of the Middle East. November 20, he spoke by telephone with the Emir of Qatar.
