Monday, February 2, 10 channel ITV reported that police recommend to close the case against former interior Minister Silvan Shalom.
The decision to close proceedings was made by the investigating authorities after it became clear that none of the women that testified to the police is not ready to make a formal complaint against the ex-Minister.
10 channel ITV reports that the police tried to convince women to file a complaint, but after a categorical refusal by the witnesses, the investigators had no choice but to recommend the Prosecutor’s office to close the case.
In the coming weeks there will be a meeting about the new legal Advisor to the government of Aviha Mandelblit, who will make the final decision.
20 December, at a time when the legal adviser of the government of Yehuda Weinstein held a meeting with police officials to discuss complaints by women of sexual harassment by Silvan Shalom, he announced that he is leaving politics. Shalom said that the decision was taken after discussion with the family, which it fully supported. Weinstein ordered police to check out complaints against Shalom.
Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the decision by the interior Minister.
After the announcement of the resignation Silvan Shalom did not participate in the meetings of the government and the Knesset.
December 24, Silvan Shalom gave a formal resignation from the post of member of the Knesset.
Recall that on 1 February the public Prosecutor’s office announced the closure case against the former Knesset member from the party of «Bayt Yehudi» Inon Magala. The case was closed on the recommendation of the police and with the approval of the state Prosecutor Shai Nitzan.
Mahal was suspected of sexual harassment against three women. Two episodes of case closed for lack of corpus delicti, and the third, because «the circumstances of the case did not warrant the filing of the indictment».
