Sunday, February 22, in the district court of tel Aviv opens the trial of former Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer. A former politician is accused of taking bribes, defrauding of public trust, violation of the prohibition on money laundering and tax violations.
The indictment was brought by the decision of the legal adviser of Yehuda Weinstein after the hearings, all the arguments of lawyers «Fuad» were rejected.
As previously reported, the reading of the text of the indictment will take place in the absence of the accused. Judge George Kara released 80-year-old Ben-Eliezer from the first court session for health reasons. It is noted that a few days ago lawyers Ben-Eliezer asked the court to release them under a protective from participation in the process for health reasons.
Currently, the court has not given a definitive answer to the request of the defence, satisfying only request for the nearest courtroom.
The indictment against former defense Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer had presented to the district court of tel Aviv on 2 December.
According to the indictment, from 2007 to 2014, being
a member of the Knesset and Minister Ben-Eliezer received from various businessmen the large sums of money in exchange for various privileges and benefits provided to them as part of its activities. The money the politician has acquired properties and valuable assets.
In particular, the indictment describes how Ben-Eliezer received hundreds of thousands of dollars, not informing the tax Department, and kept in their personal safe, and then exchanged. These actions were accompanied by careful precautions, which, according to the Prosecutor’s office, shows an awareness by the accused of the illegality of his actions.
Ben-Eliezer also accused that was submitted to the speaker of the Knesset fictitious Declaration of income, not including there received income and acquired assets. He also is charged with concealing from the IRS income received through the use of the position of member of the Knesset, tax evasion and filing relevant reports.
