The TV channel «Al-Sumaria», citing sources in Nineveh province, reports that the terrorist group «Islamic state» announced the death of its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
In the statement ISIS also said about the imminent appointment of a new «Caliph» and urged militants to continue the protection of strongholds. The source also said that the statement published in only one place – tel afar, located West of Mosul.
It was in this village a few days ago, jihadists issued a formal prohibition to conduct any conversations about the possible death of al-Baghdadi. Punishment for violating the ban was to be 50 lashes.
The source noted that the statement raises many questions. In previous cases, when the IG acknowledged the death of one of their leaders, this was done through advocacy groups, not by using the statement, distributed in one town.
Earlier, Iranian news Agency IRIB claimed that the terrorist leader is «absolutely dead,» and published photos of the corpse, allegedly discovered in raqqa. But then there were the sceptics who claimed that the photographs depicted a different person.
However, over the past three years, the press at least 12 times published reports about the terrorist’s death, and each time they were false.
So, in October 2016, the Arab and Iranian media reported an attempt to poison the leader and three of his commanders.
On the death of al-Baghdadi, for example, on 14 June 2016, reported the news Agency «al-Amak» associated with ISIS, the report said that al-Baghdadi died «on the fifth day of the Holy month of Ramadan.»
In October 2015, it was reported that al-Baghdadi was wounded in an airstrike on the border of Syria and Iraq, but survived. It was rumored that after being wounded he moved to Libya, but they were not confirmed.
