American foreign Ministry expressed concern about the decision of the Israeli authorities to expand the jurisdiction of the local Council of gush Etzion, a bloc of settlements behind the «green line».
According to John Kirby, press Secretary of the U.S. Department of state, continued settlement activity raises questions about the long-term intentions of Israel and endangers peaceful resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the principle of «two States for two peoples». He stressed that the extension of jurisdiction means the construction of a new settlement on a plot of 10 acres.
Earlier, Israeli defense Minister Moshe ya’alon signed a decree on the extension of the jurisdiction of the local Council of gush Etzion in an area of 40 dunums. According to the newspaper ha’aretz, the land was bought by a non-profit organization financed by Jewish millionaire Irving Moskowitz and his wife.
On this site it is planned to build new homes for settlers.
