A Federal court judge in Michigan mark goldsmith have temporarily suspended the deportation from the United States 1.444 Iraqi citizens, whose lawyers claim that in Iraq, they, as representatives of ethnic and religious minorities, await, according to Reuters.
Goldsmith said that the delay of several months will allow living in the US for the Iraqis to challenge the deportation in the Federal courts.
It is not known whether the decision of the goldsmith protested the U.S. government.
Recall 1.444 Iraqis living in the United States, subject to deportation, however, only 199 of them were arrested in June, U.S. immigration officials. These 199 people are subject to deportation as perpetrators in the U.S. a criminal offense. The deportation of the rest must be made for violation of immigration laws.
The lawyers representing the Iraqis argue that most of them are Catholics, Sunnis and Kurds in Iraq, they face imprisonment, torture and the death penalty.
