On Tuesday, may 16, the Verkhovna Rada has banned the use of St. George ribbons in Ukraine, introducing for violation of administrative punishment.
On the website of the Verkhovna Rada stated that the Code of Ukraine on administrative offences was supplemented with a new article under number 1723 for «Production and promotion of St. George (guards) ribbon». The demonstration, using the image of St. George ribbons is permitted only in the cases stipulated by part three of article 4 of the Law of Ukraine «about the condemnation of the Communist and national socialist regimes in Ukraine».
The Agency TASS noted that the MP from the faction «people’s front» Anton Gerashchenko from the rostrum of Parliament said that the Ukrainian Parliament oppose «Russian aggression in Ukraine», and the ribbon he called its symbol.
The penalty for display of the ribbons will be from 850 ($32) up to 2550 UAH hryvnia ($96). For repeated violation within a year can be applied to a fine up to 5,100 UAH (192 dollars) or administrative arrest up to 15 days.
TASS also reports that Vice-speaker of the state Duma Irina Yarovaya stated that the prohibition of the ribbons Ukraine is the official fascisation of the country.
