As of Friday morning, 12 February, the Taiwan authorities to confirm the death of at least 94 people as a result of the earthquake the day before. About 30 people are still missing. Approximately 500 people received injuries, most of them discharged.

Most people were killed in the collapse of a 17-storey building «Waiguan» in Tainan. The contractors who built this house, was arrested. An investigation is underway.
The earthquake of a magnitude of 6.4 occurred in the southern part of the island of Taiwan on the night of Saturday 6 February. The earthquake destroyed several houses. 400 thousand people were left without water, 121 thousand housing units were without electricity.
The epicenter was 48 km South-East from the major city of Tainan, in the southern part of the island, the center lies at a depth of 23 km.
Taiwan is in a seismically active zone of the Pacific ocean. Every year in this region occur on average three earthquakes with magnitude more than 6. In September 1999 an earthquake of magnitude 7.6 resulted in the deaths of 2.4 thousand people.
