Supporters of the Shiite theologian Moqtada al-Sadr announced that the elections to the Iraqi Parliament, which will be held may 12, will form a single electoral bloc with the Communists. The Communist party stands for a secular Iraq.
«This is the first such Alliance in the Iraqi history. This is a revolution, started by Iraqis demanding reforms – among them are secular, for example, the Communists, and moderately religious, for example, the followers of al-Sadr,» — said the representative led by the as-Sadr movement Ibrahim al-Jaberi.
The leaders of the list have noted that over the past two years voted together on all the fundamental bills, and adhere to the unity of two fundamental issues: inadmissibility of confessional schism and the need to combat corruption.
«Al-Sadr and his followers are not fighting for the interests of their sector. They are interested in the rule of law and creating civil society. The secular and the religious must work together», — said the first Secretary of the Communist party, RAID Fahmi.
Recall that about 10 years ago, al-Sadr, who comes from an influential Shia family of Iraq, led the fight against the US-led coalition. He returned to politics in 2014, opposing corruption and Iranian influence.
