The Turkish government warned that the decision of Russia and Armenia to join the air defense system exacerbates tensions in the Caucasus region, reports «Hurriyet» citing sources in Ankara.
23 December, Russian defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and the defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan agreed to establish a unified air defense system.
In addition, Ankara expressed its concern about the statement of the representatives of the Armenian leadership that the cease-fire in Nagorno-Karabakh virtually ceased to exist.
A Turkish official told the newspaper on condition of anonymity that Russia and Romania should refrain from steps that could undermine the stability of the Caucasus. According to him, Turkey is interested in the continuation of the policy of good-neighbourly relations in the region.
