The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkey issued a statement recommending that citizens in Germany, to be vigilant against the rise of anti-Turkish sentiment. The foreign Ministry attributes this to the approaching elections.
«The struggle for political leadership is based on inciting hatred against the Turks and against the country’s accession to the EU. Ultra-right parties managed to impose on Germany the agenda», — said in a statement.
A few days ago during a TV debate, the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel said that put an end to the attempts of Turkey to join the EU. This aroused the indignation of official Ankara.
The attitude of Merkel and other EU leaders changed dramatically after the suppression of the July coup, 2016. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan began a purge of the state apparatus, public sector and law enforcement agencies from the real and imaginary opposition.
Particularly worrying are the plans of the Turkish leadership to impose the death penalty. This penalty is completely contrary to European values.
