Special humanitarian coordinator of UN operations in Yemen, Jamie McGoldrick has urged the warring parties to immediately provide humanitarian access to all areas of the civil war-torn country.
«8.4 million Yemenis are on the verge of starvation. Their life depends on whether we are able to provide them with food, clean water, shelter and medical care», — he said.
McGoldrick emphasized the responsibility of Saudi Arabia for the current disastrous situation. According to him, the Kingdom has not yet taken off the ground and naval blockade of areas controlled by the Houthis, that prevents the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
At the same time, he noted that the outbreak of hostilities in the North, following the assassination of the Houthi, former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, have also exacerbated the humanitarian situation.
