The regional Director of UNICEF Geert Kappeler, visited Yemen covered not only civil war, but a cholera epidemic. According to him, the situation is desperate.
Kappler said that in the coming weeks the number of cases of cholera will exceed 300,000. With half of all cases of infection are children.
No way to help infected people not. Most hospitals have closed, there are no medicines. Local residents often lack access to running water.
The epidemic covered 19 of the 22 provinces of Yemen. Every day the country gets sick of 3.000-5.000 people. The representative of the UN Agency recalled that epidemics do not respect national borders and, therefore, the cholera will spread to neighboring countries.
