In the night of Monday, July 3, the 31 delegates to the General Synod of the United Church of Christ (UCC) overwhelmingly endorsed a resolution condemning Israel’s cruelty to Palestinian children living in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza strip.
For the document , calling upon Israel «to fully prohibit torture and ill-treatment of prisoners, to the children,» voted 79% of the delegates to the UCC, 13% were against and 9% abstentions. The meeting was held in Baltimore, the administrative center of Maryland.
The clerics also urged the U.S. to stop providing military aid to the Jewish state, which, according to UCC, violates human rights and is responsible for the plight of Palestinian children in Israel and the Palestinian authority.
The Jewish news Agency JTA recalled that two years earlier, the UCC voted to refuse to cooperate with the companies that receive income from enterprises located in so-called «green line».
The resolution also listed torture, which are «Palestinian children» in Israeli prisons: searches, linking hands, blindfolds, physical violence, verbal abuse, humiliation, isolation and interrogation in the absence of a lawyer and parents.
On the official website of the United Church of Christ, the denomination includes more than 5,000 churches and about a million parishioners in the United States.
