Several hours later, after the adoption of this resolution, Nikki Haley, U.S. Ambassador to the UN, called the UNESCO decision «tragic» and «insulting», reports the Times of Israel.
«The UNESCO vote on the issue of Hebron is an insult to history,» said Haley, noting that the resolution undermines the trust necessary for successful settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Haley also stressed that the decision «again discreditied the already dubious UN Agency».
Meanwhile, the official Ramallah and Hamas unanimously upheld the decision of UNESCO, calling it a «diplomatic success».
