Sunday, February 21, the chief of the General staff of the IDF Lieutenant General Gadi Eizenkot will speak at a meeting of the government with a report on the current situation.

Performance Eisenkot was planned long ago, but has attracted particular attention in connection with the scandal that erupted after the speech of the chief of staff to students in Haifa. Answering a question from high school students about the methods to prevent the attacks, Eizenkot stated that «the IDF cannot act in accordance with populist appeals such as «kill the one who came to kill you.» The chief of staff added that «I would not like to have someone emptied the magazine in 15-year-old girl with scissors in their hands.»

These words Eisenkot continue to cause debate in the political and military system. Education Minister Naftali Bennett («Bayt Yehudi») said in an interview with NRG website, «apparently, Gadi Eisenkot been misunderstood». According to Bennett, «he only repeated the well-known rules: if there is a threat of life, the soldier is obliged to open fire to neutralize the terrorist, and if there is no danger, then shoot prohibited.»

Earlier, Knesset members from the party of «Bayt Yehudi» Bezalel Smotrich and Moti Yogev subjected words Eizenkot to sharp criticism and called on defense Minister ya’alon «to conduct explanatory conversation with the chief of the General staff». The defense Minister said, commenting on the words Eizenkot that «we are in a very difficult reality, which places a complicated dilemma before the soldier who must decide whether to press the trigger and to deprive the lives of someone standing in front of you, even if it’s the enemy.» Ya’alon added that «we cannot afford the loss of human form».

The head of the parliamentary opposition Isaac Herzog («the Zionist camp») has accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he had no sufficient support to the chief of the General staff. Speaking at the event «Shabatot» in Mevaseret Zion, Duke said that «Netanyahu threw Eisenkot adrift and at «the mercy of» extremists from the right camp.»

Add that Brigadier General reserve Zvi Vogel was subjected to the words Eisenkot sharp criticism. «The relationship that he has met a girl with scissors and a quote from (canonical) Jewish sources, it is highly problematic,» said Vogel.
