The US President Donald trump has not abandoned the idea of transferring the American Embassy from tel Aviv to Jerusalem, as promised during the election campaign, and will continue to review this project.
This was stated last Wednesday during the daily press briefing, Deputy press Secretary of the White house Sarah Huckaby Sanders in response to a request of journalists to comment on reports by the Israeli media, writes the may 10 edition of the Times of Israel.
Recently the media reported that trump has decided to use his veto power and to freeze the process of transfer the American Embassy from tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The NRG website claimed that information about this decision trump handed over to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
However, at the request of the publisher of the website NEWSru.co.il from the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he had not received any notifications about a particular decision of the President of the United States, which dealt with the fate of the Embassy.
«The office of the head of the government had not received notification about a particular decision of the President regarding the fate of the Embassy. Israel’s position remains unchanged: all the embassies, including the U.S. Embassy, must be the capital of Israel, Jerusalem», – stated in the message received by the editorial office.
«The law on Jerusalem» was approved by Congress in 1995. It says that the U.S. recognizes Jerusalem as the United and undivided capital of Israel. The American Embassy should move to Jerusalem no later than may 1999. However, the law provided for the retention by the President the right of veto on the implementation of the law.
The corresponding decree the President must sign every six months, and in June, it first needs to be done to President Trump. On the eve of his visit to Israel discussed the possibility that trump will refrain from signing the decree.
