The American branch of the world health organization (PAHO) warns that a dangerous virus zika, which is considered the reason for the increase in Brazil the number of children born with microcephaly – a significant reduction of brain size — may extend nearly throughout North and South America, except Canada and Chile.
Zika fever is spreading rapidly in the countries of South America. In Brazil since October, there were almost 4,000 cases of birth of children with very little head to mothers infected with zika virus. In Colombia, the number of cases of the virus exceeds 13.000.
The zika virus is incurable. The only way to counter it is to fight its spread by mosquitoes.
Since may 2015, when the zika virus, which originated in Africa, was first registered in Brazil, the fever had spread to 21 States in the region.
At the moment nothing indicates that Zeke is passed to the child with mother’s milk, but there is a theory, still under verification that the virus is sexually transmitted.
