From September 20 on the route Beersheba-tel Aviv (part of the project «the Train of the Negev») will operate Express train. The corresponding order was given by the Minister of transport Yisrael Katz. The purpose of innovation — to improve rail service for residents of the South.
The press service of the Ministry of transport says that the Express will leave in the morning from the station in Beersheba, and in the afternoon hours – from tel Aviv. Stop the Express is provided on the following stations: be’er Sheva, Ofakim, Netivot, Sderot, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Yavne Maarav, Rishon LeZion Moshe Dayan and tel Aviv ha-Hagana. The train will stop at four stations in Holon and bat-Yam.
High-speed train to tel Aviv is part of the project connecting the South with the center of the country, and provide faster and more efficient transportation.
The Ministry of transport noted that «the Train of the Negev» (line linking Ashkelon with be’er Sheva), has been a great success — the number of passengers is constantly growing here. Today there are more than 30 thousand people a day in both directions. The number of passengers using stations in Sderot, Netivot and Ofakim, has reached 115 thousand per month.
Recall that according to the decision of the Minister Katz, from the moment of introduction in operation of new stations «Trains of the Negev», the residents of Sderot, Netivot, Ofakim and the surrounding area were granted free travel within three months. Next, for two years — discount 50%.
«This railway route has changed the daily lives of many southerners that can quickly and comfortably get in Beersheba and tel Aviv at an affordable price,» concluded Yisrael Katz.
