World Cup chess: Boris Gelfand dropped out of the fight. Ivanchuk has advanced to the third round

The strongest chess player in Israel’s Boris Gelfand (2737) failed to reach the third round of the world chess Cup, held in Tbilisi, losing on a tie-break, the Chinese Wang Hao (2701) 1.5:2.5.

In the 1/16 final of the Chinese GM will meet with Ukrainian Yuri Kuzubov (2688) who beat Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan, 2797) 3:1.

Peter Svidler (Russia, 2756) defeated the Hungarian Viktor Erdos (2619) 2.5:1.5. Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk (2727) coped with the pole Jan-Krzysztof Duda (2698) 3.5:2.5.

The Dutchman Anish Giri (2777) beat Russian Alexander Motylev (2668) 4:2. Levon Aronian (Armenia) with the same score defeated HOU Yifan (China, 2670). Matias Blobaum (Germany, 2633) lost to Wesley So (2792) 2:4.

In the confrontation between the Russian Evgeny Najer (2694) defeated Nikita Vitiugov (2728) 3:1.
