Yale renamed the College, named in honor of supporter of slavery

The leadership of Yale University decided to rename one of the members of the University College, named in honor of John Calhoun, one of the most prominent American defenders of slavery, according to Reuters.

A native of South Carolina, John Calhoun graduated from Yale in 1804 and served as Vice President of the United States under John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. Calhoun also at different periods was a Senator, Secretary of state and Minister of war.

Now the College named Calhoun is named in honor of grace Hopper — a graduate of Yale, an American scientist and rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy.
